International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies, 2015 (IYL 2015) is a United Nations observance that aims to raise awareness of the achievements of light science and its applications, and its importance to humankind with this in mind I propose to use light in a community collaboration to highlight sustainability and Climate Change.
For Winter Festival 2015 in the icy cold water of Queenstown Bay ,Lake Wakatipu there will appear icebergs- out of Place but highlighting climate change and the seeing the Light in the Wakatipu Basin. The proposal is to create floating icebergs that engage with the natural environs of the Lake and Central Otago. Highlighting what we do with our rubbish and where does it float to ?the Milk Icebergs will offer the notion of awareness with recycling ,community problem solving, and sustainablitly by reusing a everyday by product in conjunction with light based Technologies , M.powered Inc, Luci lights. The project involves collecting plastic milk cartons,cleaning and creating icebergs, installing LED lights, the aim is to engage with the makers the effects of climate change on themselves and effected flora and fauna, the icebergs will be joined by animals who are struggling with there new reality.
